December 23, 1936 - December 5, 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ross Caister. Ross passed away peacefully at his retirement suite at Amica Newmarket, surrounded by the love of friends and caregivers.

Ross was predeceased in 2021 by the love of his life, Christa Renate Caister (September 21, 1940 - November 19, 2021). Ross was born on December 23, 1936 in Toronto, Ontario to parents Beverly Caister and Rosena Oram. Ross leaves to mourn his brother Allan (Dianne) and special friends Jack and Jen Bevin.

Ross enjoyed a very successful career as a commercial building designer, from which his designs can be seen worldwide. He spent a substantial amount of time in China and Hungary, but his time in Newfoundland held a special place in his heart. Always the perfect gentleman, with impeccable grooming, he would enjoy spending hours surrounded by nature. Together with his late wife Christa, Ross enjoyed participating in cat shows, and won many awards for his Siamese cats.

Ross was an avid historian, who believed that learning from the past is how we improve today. Ross proudly served at the Newmarket Historical Society, and before that the Markham Historical Society.

A special thank you to Dr. Allison Ransom, nurse Fariba Rahbar, and the Palliative Care team at Southlake, as well as the wonderful staff at Amica, Newmarket.

To the wonderful caregivers who comforted Ross during his final months, your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten. Robyn, Charlene, Laura, Esther and Osa, we are forever grateful for your commitment to Ross' comfort and care.

Thanks also to Cathy, Darlene, Jeff Hauley Accounting, for your unwavering support. Ross's final wish would be that he will once again be reunited with his beautiful Christa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Newmarket Historical Society.
