“Together Again”
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Burton on Tuesday, December 12th. Loving wife of Sam for 72 years. Sadly, Sam passed in June of this year. We know he went ahead to prepare a place for his beloved Marie. He always took care of her.
Marie was also a loving, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed by her children Gloria (Bob), David (Nancy) and Donna (Creighton, predeceased). Her grandchildren, Wade, Dallas, Kyle and David. Her great-grandchildren, Austin, Mason, Arizona and Dawson.
Marie was born in Port Nelson, Newfoundland and was the daughter of Cecil and Lillian Wicks. Marie was one of twelve children and is survived by one brother, Lloyd. Predeceased by Art, Francis, Bill, Jean, Ernie, Gerald, Carrie, Eli, Don and Stella. Marie will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews.
Marie and Sam moved from Newfoundland to Ontario and married in 1951. Their first home was in Weston where they resided for 30 years before moving to Bradford. Many great friendships were forged over those years.
Marie’s last few years were spent at the Bloomington Cove Nursing Home in Stouffville. Our family is forever grateful to the wonderful staff of the Garden House at Bloomington Cove. They provided excellent care, compassion and love to Marie, as they did for Sam in his final years.
As per Marie’s wishes, she will be cremated and a private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
If desired, donations can be made to the Salvation Army or to the Alzheimer’s Society in Marie’s memory.
