October 12th, 1932 - April 30th, 2022

Our hearts are broken, our precious mother Joan Denise Boniface (Simms) passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022. Predeceased by her loving husband Douglas Roy Boniface (1997). Joan was born in Toronto on October 12, 1932, to Frances and Ernest Simms. Beloved mother of Gary (Kathy), Lee-Ann (Gerry) and Jamie (Louise). Loving grandmother (Nana) to Shaun, Daniel, Brent, Ryan (Christina), Erik (Megan), Erin, Megan (Derek) and Joshua (Jessica). Great grandmother to Brody, Austin, Kendal, Bryce, Nolan, Bennett, Lauren, Emma and Addison.

Mom was a wonderful hardworking homemaker and as well worked for many years outside the home. In earlier years mom devoted many years to the Anglican church and enjoyed curling, live theatre, golf, travel, shopping and spending time with family and friends. Mom had a great sense of humour, was always immaculately dressed and had a beautiful smile. Mom & dad shared an amazing life together. Dad was the love of mom’s life and they would have been in their 70th year of marriage. Mom and dad lived for many years in Scarborough and made some lifelong friends. Mom left her dream home in Scarborough to follow dad to an old farmhouse on 2 acres in Queensville, settling right into country life. Planting a vegetable garden, raising chickens, a cow or two and a couple of horses as well as a goat mom named Annie. Years later mom bravely followed dad to the far east where she worked as dad’s administrative assistant setting up offices for Canadian Standards Association in Taiwan and then a few years later in Hong Kong. They made many wonderful friends and memories.

Mom and dad travelled extensively and on their way home from Hong Kong completed a lifelong dream of spending time in Africa going on safari.
After dad passed mom continued to live independently in her Newmarket condo for over 20 years serving on the board of directors and running the bingo group making some good friends.

Mom lived a full and amazing life. She was devoted to her family. An amazing mother and grandmother. Kind, generous and always there for everyone. We were so lucky to have her in our lives and are thankful for all the wonderful memories that we have. Mom/Nana you are loved beyond words and will forever be in our hearts.

The family would like to thank all the medical and caregiving staff at Southlake Hospital, RCU Rehabilitation Centre, Baycrest Hospital, Southlake Village and Cedarvale Lodge. Thank you for your kindness and the care you provided to our mother and our family.
