BENNETT, Glen Weston, age 90 of Newmarket, Ontario, passed away peacefully at Southlake Regional Health Centre, on August 09, 2023, at 9:38 a.m. after a courageous battle with cancer. His family was by his side.

Born in Irlande Quebec on October 10th, 1932, to Otis and Jessie Bennett (Annesley). Glen grew up in Maple Grove on a 200 acre maple syrup producing farm, where he worked hard to help his family business, when he was not away at school. After graduation Glen's first job was as a handy-man in the Machine Shop at Johnson's Asbestos Mine in Thetford, where he worked for two years. He left his employ when he was asked to return home to help his brother Dellas with the farm as their father became sick with cancer and soon after passed away; Glen was only 19.

After a few years Glen moved to Montreal when he landed a position as an office clerk at BP Oil Company. After completing courses at night school he quickly rose to the position of Insurance-Risk-Manager-which he loved-spanning 30 years, in both Montreal and eventually Toronto from 1980. BP-Canada was subsequently sold to Petro-Canada and many lost their jobs. Afterwards Glen's career took a brief turn when he earned his licence as a Real-estate Agent, and worked for Royal LePage for about a year ending when he became an Insurance-Risk-Manager once again only this time for Molson Canada where he remained for the last 10 years of his professional life, retiring at the age of 65. Glen enjoyed the perks of his Risk Manager position very much especially when his work took him (and Freda) to conventions in the U.S. and Scotland, and in an official capacity to the Molson Indy in Toronto.

To Glen the most important thing was family. He loved spending time together and doing things for his immediate family and extended family too. He always wanted to help out and make life easier for them if he could. Together with his wife Freda and at one time their daughters too, they took many vacations including travelling across Canada from east to west and visiting Hawaii when he retired. Glen was a very talented gardener whether it was vegetables, flowers, trees, or his lawn; Glen could always make it grow. He also was a skilled carpenter who enjoyed building furniture, structures, and repairing things out of wood for his church, his family and his own use.

Glen is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 56 years-Freda, his sister Edna Boyd (Bennett), brothers Lawrence and Dellas and brother-in-law Joe Boyd. He is remembered by his sister Elsie Gosselin (Bennett) and brother-in-law Brett Gosselin, his two daughters Janyce Todd and Noryne Bennett-Rilling, his sons-in-law Rob Todd and Mike Rilling, and his granddaughters Shannon and Kendra Todd and Erin Bennett-Rilling who were his pride and joy.

The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the Oncologists Dr. S. Kassam and Dr. T. Conrad of SRHC for their thoughtful, compassionate and dedicated support of Glen, when he needed it most.

A celebration of life in honour of Glen will be held on Friday, August 18th, beginning at 11a.m. at The Roadhouse and Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main Street South, Newmarket. Gathering and refreshments to follow.
