In loving memory of Vera Ethel Baker (nee Warren) who passed away peacefully on February 12, 2024 in Bracebridge, Ontario.

Vera was born in Epsom, England on June 5, 1923, the second of four daughters of the late Allan and Ethel (Hathaway) Warren. During World War II, she worked for NAAFI, the service institution of the British military. Vera met her future husband, Wesley Simon Baker, a Canadian soldier during the war. They married in December, 1944 and Vera came to Richmond Hill, Canada as a “war bride” in August 1945, with Wesley to follow in October. They farmed at Ringwood and Pine Orchard, finally moving to Sharon. When Wes passed in 1985, Vera remained at the home in Sharon. When she moved to be with Carolyn and Rick, in 2017, it was fifty years she had lived at Sharon.

Vera is predeceased by her husband, Wesley, by her sisters and brother-in-law, Louie (Warren) and Leon Miller, Mabel Warren and Jessie Warren. Also, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Pearl (Frank) Warwick, William Baker, Martha (Gordon) Cullen, Sarah (Clarence) Summerfeldt, Ralph (Mildred) Baker, George (Elsie) Baker, and Melvin (Effie) Baker.

Vera is the loving mother of Jennet (Dorman) Quinton and Carolyn (Rick) Aldom. She also leaves ten grandchildren, Rick (Nicole) Aldom, Katharine (Paul) Crowe, Jonathan (Sandra) Aldom, Jamie (Nicole) Aldom, Heather (Russ) Myers, Bill (Shara) Aldom, Ted (Roberta) Aldom, Jennifer Quinton, Michelle (Andrew) Jones and Melissa (Mat) Johnston. She also boasted of 33 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Vera loved spending time with family, especially cuddling the little ones and quoting rhymes, laughing and chatting with all, reading a wide variety of books, especially her Bible, knitting, sewing and needlework. During the years on the farm she worked diligently and side by side with Wes. She loved getting back to England, her first trip a flight in 1954 to be with her father in his last days, and numerous trips in her later years to visit her sisters and friends.

Special thanks goes to caregivers Dorothy, Cindy, Jennifer and Kate and the palliative medical team.
