It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, and grandmother, Deana Appleton. Deana passed on November 25, 2023.
Deana was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, in 1944 and immigrated to Canada with her parents Garrett and Maaike Barents, brother Arthur, and sisters Maria and Sophia. The family lived in Newmarket, Ontario, where she met her future husband Thomas. The couple were married on March 3, 1962. They had three children; Michelle, Thomas Jr, and Russel. Deana also has four grandchildren; Michelle and Michael’s Meghan, Matthew, and Russel, and Valerie’s Cordell and Keaton. Deana also has 15 loving nieces and nephews who miss her greatly.
Deana and Thomas shared a passion for travel, having spent time traversing the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Australia. Deana was a meticulous host, always ensuring every detail was perfect for guests. She enjoyed spending her winters in the sun with her husband, and the summers in Muskoka at their cottage.
Visitation will be held at the Taylor Funeral Home in Newmarket on Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A second visitation will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. in the Taylor Funeral Home Chapel. A Reception will follow the service. An interment will take place at Queensville Cemetery at 3:00 pm on December 1, 2023.
