Passed away peacefully at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, in his 82nd year.
Loving husband of Diane (nee Roberts) for 57 years.
Beloved father of André (Lisa) and Irene (Rob Scanlan).
Proud grandfather of Alyssa (Lior), Aiden (Shawna), Connor, and Dylan.
Rainer was predeceased by his parents, Erna and Woldemar, and siblings, Helga, Hans-Joachim, and Enno.
Rainer trained as a woodturner in Germany and emigrated to Canada at 18. He pursued his career at A. & D. Woodturning until an operation and stroke in 2000.
The past 24 years have been an extra bonus for both him and the family, even though things were not easy for him. He was an avid skier, dancer, and gardener. He was always quiet, helpful, considerate, and gave great hugs – a gene that has been passed on.
The family extends a special thanks to the ICU staff at Southlake – Dr. Lee, Dr. Fall, Dr. Bagham, and nurse Maddison, Mary, Ahmed, and Emma.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Life in June, in his special place – the garden.
