Thanks to your contributions, we’re helping to make a difference for families with children battling cancer this holiday season

The holidays can be a particularly stressful time for all of us, but especially for families who are caring for a child or teen with cancer. The added strain on families can make the holidays financially and emotionally difficult.

With this in mind and in the spirit of holiday giving, NewmarketToday embarked on a campaign to raise much-needed funds for Ontario Parents Advocating for Children with Cancer (OPACC) with an online fundraising drive and we asked you, our loyal readers, to help us.

The NewmarketToday Cares: Donation Drive was simple. NewmarketToday pledged to match community donations to OPACC made through our online pop-up store.

But that’s not all.

We were able to leverage the power of our community to make the donations even bigger by asking our local business partners to match our donation.

Aurora Kids Dentistry, Dave Starr Real Estate and International Safety answered the call.

With their support and yours, for every donation made through our pop-up store, every dollar was matched four times with all proceeds going to OPACC.

In Newmarket, the generosity of our readers and advertisers was translated into a donation of $1,625 for OPACC.

These donations will go towards supporting OPACC’s free programs and services for Ontario childhood cancer families, including the Parent Liaison program (peer-to-peer, in-hospital and virtual support), the grocery and gas gift card program for newly diagnosed patients and their families as well as families in need, the hospital parking program and providing hospital meal vouchers.

Thank you for helping us to strengthen our community and make the holiday season a bit brighter here in Newmarket.
