Flames' AHL team gets rebrand for upcoming season, renamed Calgary Wranglers

CALGARY — The Calgary Flames' American Hockey League team is getting a rebrand.

The team said in a social media post Tuesday that it will be known as the Calgary Wranglers when it joins the Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome to start the 2022-23 AHL season.

The team had been based in Stockton, Calif., and known as the Heat since Jan. 29, 2015.

The Flames announced in May that they were relocating the team to Calgary.

The Wranglers name has history in Calgary.

A Western Hockey League team in Calgary had the moniker for 10 seasons before moving to Lethbridge, Alta., before the 1987-88 season.
