Newmarket's Denver Barkey of the London Knights was named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week.

Newmarket’s Denver Barkey lit up the Ontario Hockey League last week to be named a top performer.

The hockey league named Barkey as the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week Nov. 13, after recording seven points (two goals, five assists) in three games. Barkey helped lead the London Knights to a perfect week, three wins and zero losses.

“Barkey had a strong start to the week on Thursday, registering three assists as the Knights defeated the Windsor Spitfires in a high-scoring 10-7 road win,” the OHL said, adding he would go on to score the game-winning goal with two assists Friday in a 5-4 overtime win, before scoring again Saturday in a 4-0 win.

The 18-year-old winger from Newmarket has led the Knights in scoring, with 11 goals, 15 assists and 26 points over 18 games so far this season.

Barkey helped the Knights to a western conference title last spring, with 24 points in 20 playoff games. He would be rewarded by getting drafted 95th overall by the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers this past summer.

"A feel good moment, but I know there’s a lot more work ahead of me," Barkey said after getting drafted.
