NEWS RELEASE
YORK REGIONAL POLICE
*************************
Chief Jim MacSween is proud to announce York Regional Police has, for the third year in a row, been named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for Young People for 2021.

This special designation recognizes employers that offer the nation's best workplaces and programs for young people just starting their careers. The employers on the list are Canada's leaders in attracting and retaining younger employees to their organizations.

“We are honoured to accept this recognition of the many programs and initiatives at York Regional Police that support our young employees,” said Chief MacSween. “Providing mentoring, career guidance and workplace support to young employees only serves to makes our organization stronger.”

York Regional Police is among thousands of employers in Canada evaluated by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers in regards to youth programs and benefits. The editors also review each employer’s training and mentorship programs, as well as career-management programs.

The following are some of the reasons why York Regional Police was selected: Summer student employment is offered in a variety of fields, including finance, human resources, information technology and corporate communications. Students must be enrolled in police foundations, criminology, law or related programs and those who successfully complete their term may return for a second consecutive summer.

Through our Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI) paid internship program, we provide young people an opportunity to develop job skills, inspire youth to consider a career in policing and to become ambassadors of YRP by improving police and community relations.

The Student Cadet Program is another paid internship program geared at providing policing experience to students interested in pursuing a career in policing. Students who attend a policerelated college or university program are invited to participate in this leading edge program, which serves to develop qualified candidates for a career in policing at a younger age.

Our Mentor Program provides members with an opportunity to participate in a professional partnership in which an experienced member (mentor) assists another member (mentee) with developing specific skills and knowledge that will enhance the mentee's professional career path.
