York Region District School Board (YRDSB) has ratified a new four-year collective agreement with it elementary teachers.

The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario, York Region (ETFO-YR) had previously ratified the agreement through a membership vote prior to the March 27 ratification by the board, according to a YRDSB news release.

“On behalf of the board, I would like to extend our deep gratitude to our elementary teachers for their unwavering support of students and their families,” said board chair Ron Lynn. “I am pleased that we have reached an agreement and would like to thank our board staff and ETFO-YR for their leadership in ratifying this agreement.”

“Our teachers are genuinely and proudly dedicated and committed to ensuring that all students are provided with the conditions needed to learn, thrive, succeed, and feel safe and valued,” said Pam Beetlestone, president of ETFO-YR.

“We are very pleased that our collective agreement has been ratified and thank our ETFO York Region’s leadership team and the board’s leadership team for our partnership in ensuring an agreement was met. I am sincerely grateful for our ongoing professional and respectful relationships.”

The agreements between the YRDSB and ETFO-YR include items bargained locally, the release stated. As part of the School Boards Collective Bargaining Act, the local agreement will be combined with the centrally bargained terms of the provincial agreement.
