NEWS RELEASE
YORK REGION DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
*************************
In order to offer York Region District School Board students an "in person" graduation experience, all elementary and secondary schools have been asked to facilitate a "drive through" celebration of graduating Grade 8 and Grade 12 students. The "drive-through" celebrations are expected to take place during the week of June 21, 2021.

"We have worked closely with York Region Public Health to offer an in-person graduation opportunity to Grade 8 and Grade 12 students so they can safely celebrate this important milestone," said Louise Sirisko, Director of Education. "We thank our families for their continued patience as we work to support and celebrate student achievement during this time."

Specific details, such as dates, times, safety protocols and traffic flow, will be communicated to families directly by their children's school.

Attendance of the drive-through celebration is optional. All schools will continue with their virtual graduations as the formal ceremonies by which to officially recognize and honour Grade 8 and Grade 12 graduating students.

York Region District School Board is the third largest school district in Ontario with over 128,000 students in 180 elementary schools and 33 secondary schools. York Region students consistently perform above average in provincial testing and the Board is one of the top achievers in Ontario.
