A work of art by a youngster from Richmond Hill has been selected as the winner of the Earth Rangers holiday card contest and as a result, is being profiled on the annual Christmas card by Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC).

Six months ago, Earth Rangers and Forest Products Association of Canada celebrated their long-standing partnership by inviting young people across Canada to create and submit a piece of art that captures the beauty of trees and forests. Rangers who participated had the opportunity to win one of three swag bags full of sustainable goodies - and for the grand prize winner, the opportunity to have their artwork featured on FPAC’s 2021 Christmas card.

The contest resulted in more than 100 beautiful and creative entries, ranging from drawings and paintings to digital art and 3D images made from forest materials like pine needles, flowers, and berries. In the end, it was put to a vote and FPAC employees chose the following three very deserving winners:

  • Ranger Rayyaan – Maple, Ontario
    Third place
  • Ranger Maiya – Port Moody, BC
    Second place

“Our partnership with FPAC has enabled us to educate tens of thousands of kids across Canada on the importance of forest sustainability and engage them in taking action in their own community by planting trees with our Just 1 Tree Mission,” said Earth Rangers president Tovah Barocas. “We were thrilled but not at all surprised to see the incredible response to this contest, with over 100 creative and beautiful holiday cards with inspiring messages about their love for forests and why we need to protect them.”

  • Ranger Livia – Richmond Hill, Ontario
    First Place

“Earth Rangers does such great work with young people, parents, and teachers so they have information and ideas on how they can make a difference for the environment in their homes and communities, said president and CEO Derek Nighbor. “This contest celebrated in a very seasonal way the important role Canada’s forests and forest products play in climate action. It was also fun for our team to see all the creative drawings and designs from kids across the country,” Nighbor added.
