Effective immediately, York Region residents aged 70 and older can book an appointment for second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Just days after opening second dose eligibility to ages 80 and older, individuals born in 1951 or earlier can also choose to shorten the interval between doses.

Appointments can be booked online or by telephone or online on york.ca/COVID19Vaccine

For those who don’t feel comfortable making their appointment online, York Region recommends finding a friend or family member who can help them through the booking process.

Residents who have a previously scheduled second dose appointment are required to book an earlier appointment, which will be honoured, according to regional spokesperson Patrick Casey.

When a new second dose appointment is made, however, it will automatically be cancelled in the system, he added.

The Ontario government recently announced a plan to accelerate second doses in the province. As part of that schedule, residents 80 and older could begin booking earlier appointments as of May 31.

Those 70 and older were not expected to be able to book their new appointments until the week of June 14.

York Region is currently offering appointments to receive a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine for anyone 12 and older who lives, works or attends school in the region.
