York Region offers emergency shelter during cold weather alert

The Regional Municipality of York has issued a cold weather alert for additional help to those experiencing homelessness today.

Emergency shelter and warming centres are available as temperatures are expected to dip tonight. Environment Canada is forecasting a low of -8C overnight, along with 10 to 15 centimetres of snow.

Within Newmarket, the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex at 100 Eagle St. W. and Magna Centre at 800 Mulock Dr. are open as warming centres during regular hours from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The Town of Newmarket advised to limit exposure to the cold weather, keep yourself well protected and consider staying indoors.
