Nearly 29,000 doses later, York Region Public Health has closed the drive-thru COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Canada's Wonderland in Vaughan.

The public health unit is working to find a location for another drive-thru clinic in its place, but has yet to finalize the details, according to spokesperson Patrick Casey.

The impact of the increasing summer heat and storms on staff who are mainly working outdoors is the reason cited for the decision.

The closure comes in the wake of the announcement yesterday from Canada's Wonderland's that the park will reopen to season's pass holders on July 5 and other visitors on July 7.

"York Region extends appreciation to Canada’s Wonderland and their staff for their exceptional help and partnership over the past few months," Casey said.

The clinic opened with fanfare last March 29, providing an accessible option to residents with mobility restrictions.

Between March 18 and June 13, 28,938 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered at Canada’s Wonderland.

In the meantime, a pop-up vaccination clinic for first doses only will take place this weekend, June 19 and 20, at Father Ermanno Bulfon Community Centre at 8141 Martin Grove Rd. in Vaughan from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. for anyone aged 12 and older who lives in York Region.

Appointments are not required for this walk-in clinic — second doses will not be provided at this clinic.

To book a second dose appointment, visit york.ca/COVID19Vaccine or call Access York at 1-877-464-9675.
