In the wake of "significant" call volumes that could impact the ability of York Region public health to manage the local COVID-19 health crisis, residents are being requested to review the information that determines priority cases.

"Our ability to properly manage the COVID-19 situation in our community is dependent upon being able to speak with those residents (whose cases are priority)," the dedicated website states. "It is imperative that we manage our phone lines accordingly."

Priority cases are:

  • Health care providers who are seeking or reporting information;
  • Residents who have travelled to Hubei province (China), Iran or Italy;
  • Residents who have recently travelled outside of Canada, including the United States of America, and are experiencing symptoms of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) such as fever, coughing, and difficulty breathing;
  • Residents who have been in close contact with someone who has recently travelled abroad and are starting to experience symptoms of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) such as fever, coughing, and difficulty breathing.

All other residents with questions or concerns regarding COVID-19 are asked to read the information on the public health web page or call Health Connection at 1-800-361-5653 (1-866-512-6228 for the deaf or hard of hearing) or TeleHealth at 1-866-797-0000.

If you are experiencing symptoms and have travelled internationally, isolate yourself from others as quickly as possible, public health advises. Immediately call your health care professional or York Region Public Health at 1-877-464-9675, ext. 73588.
