Fall in the perfect time to explore York Region's 1,000 kilometres of cycling routes and trails.

York Region has partnered with Biko, a mobile app that offers incentives to encourage people to get out of their cars and on their bikes.

By downloading Biko, cyclists can track kilometres travelled and earn digital points that can be exchanged for goods from participating businesses. You will also have a chance to win a free bike.

York Region will use the Biko app data to help with future cycling improvements. Biko does not use mobile data to track trips, making it user-friendly and affordable.

You can start collecting points by following one of the cycling tour routes offered across the region, including the 17-kilometre family-friendly Butter Tart Ride in Newmarket.

Your ride will feature the Nokiidaa Trail System, which links several parks and green spaces, and quaint historic neighbourhoods. Look for the ghost canals at the Rogers Reservoir, explore Sheppard's Bush and stop for refreshments on south Main Street, near Fairy Lake. The "secret family recipe" butter tarts at the Maid's Cottage Restaurant come highly recommended. Printable Map and Suggested Itinerary

York Region has more than 1,000 kilometres of cycling routes and trails, and is attracting a growing number of cyclists every year, according to the Regional Municipality of York.

Between 2011 and 2016, cycling rates in York Region increased by 76 per cent, which is the highest in the Greater Toronto Area.

Whether it’s cycling for your daily transportation needs, touring quiet and scenic rural areas, or heading out on a trail for a recreational ride, there is plenty to explore in York Region by bike.
