Time to party, princesses and superheroes

You don’t have to wait till Halloween to dress up. Come on out to the Magna Centre for some Halloween fun Saturday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dress up as a prince, princess or superhero for the day and enjoy games, crafts, inflatables, meet your favourite characters and much more. Adults and children under 1 years of age are free. Tickets can be purchased on the day of the event at the Magna Centre customer service kiosk. More scary fun at Boo-seum

Fun-filled activities await you at the Elman W. Campbell Museum — actually, the scary Boo-seum for the weekend. You will have a howling good time Saturday at 1:30 p.m. as you explore Halloween displays, make a craft and partake in a Halloween hunt to win prizes. Don’t miss meeting writer Andrew Hind, as he will be selling and signing autographed copies of his new book, Canadian Monsters and Mythical Creatures, for $16.95. Take the family on rollicking rock ‘n’ roll trip

Take a rollicking time-travel through the greatest moments of rock ‘n’ roll with Glenn Marais and his band Saturday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Newmarket Theatre. From blues great Muddy Waters to rock n’ rollers Chuck Berry and Elvis, Beatlemania, James Brown, Motown, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Queen, Green Day, Michael Jackson and Bruno Mars. This afternoon concert is presented with families in mind and is suitable for all ages. Cost is $12 for adults, $10 for children or $32 for a family pack (four people). It’s a day of crime!

Oh, the suspense, the thrill, the mystery … who can resist a good crime story? Here’s your chance to meet the crime writers at Chapters Newmarket on Yonge Street Saturday, Oct. 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., one of the free spine-tingling 35th anniversary celebration events being hosted by Crime Writers of Canada. Join authors Tracy L. Ward, Nanci M. Pattenden, Sharon Crawford, K.J. Howe, Lorna Poplak and John Worsley Simpson.

Battle of Yonge Street rages on

This weekend, the annual epic battle continues, with Newmarket vs Aurora rep hockey teams from Novice A to Midget AA taking to the ice for the trophy and a year of bragging rights. Weekend events include barbecues and local vender sales. Don’t forget to bring a non-perishable food item for the food bank drive. Newmarket hosts the official opening at 8:45 p.m. tonight at Magna Centre, 800 Mulock Dr, with a ceremonial face-off at the Midget AA game at 9 p.m. For the schedule, visit here
