York Region Festival of One-Act Plays continues till Saturday

The Very Useful Theatre Company continues its performances of one-act plays at the Old Town Hall in Newmarket. For the Love of Summer takes the stage for its world premiere Friday, Oct. 5., as well as Good Night Uncle JoeThe Ordinary Princess and My Narrator, written by Newmarket native playwright Norm Foster, are Saturday's line-up. Visit www.vutc.ca for tickets and show times. Tickets are $15 per person per play. Proceeds will be shared with the Rotary Club of Newmarket in support of youth programs.

Take a discovery walk

This one-hour walking series will have you feeling inspired as you learn stories from a local guide, with the opportunity to also tell your own stories. Calling all Newmarket knitters

Bring your friends and learn the fundamentals of knitting while working on your own project or together in a group. The event is free, but you must be 16 years of age and older to participate. This takes place at the Newmarket Public Library at 438 Park Ave. Oct. 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. No sign-up is required.

Cachet Restaurant, at 500 Water St., will be closed to regular service Monday, but will be hosting its annual open door free Thanksgiving Dinner from 1 to 9 p.m. to "anyone in the community who would like to enjoy and may need some company on Thanksgiving".
