Friday, April 5

Film Fridays at Newmarket Library: Watch free movies at Film Fridays every Friday at Newmarket Public Library. Bring your own snacks, doors open at 1:45 p.m., movie starts at 2 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Katie Fuentes at Old Flame: Main Street's Old Flame Brewery at 140 Main St. S., Newmarket hosts Canadian pop R&B singer/songwriter Katie Fuentes from 7 to 10 to p.m.

Sin Bin Comedy Show with Ian Sirota: Enjoy at fun night of laughts with headliner Ian Sirota at at Lions and Suns, 18947 Woodbine Ave., East Gwillimbury from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Tickets $25.

Saturday, April 6

Newmarket Home & Lifestyle Show: The Newmarket Home & Lifestyle Show, the biggest home show in York Region, returns to the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with more than 150 exhibitor spaces, including landscaping, renovating, decorating and more.

Math in Drag Author Event: TikTok influencer and Math In Drag author Kyne Santos is coming to Newmarket to highlight the many creative ways mathematics can be taught. Newmarket Library is hosting the free event with former Canada’s Drag Race competitor, whose book combines a love of drag with a knowledge of math. You'll have the opportunity to meet the author, ask questions and get a copy of Math In Drag signed. Free tickets to the event, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Newmarket Old Town Hall, 460 Botsford St., are available here.

Country Night and Line Dancing Lessons: Cheatin’ Hearts is at Old Flame Brewing, 140 Main St. S., Newmarket from 7 to 9 p.m. Beginners to seasoned pros welcome. Tickets are $20 and include two hours of lessons and one drink.

Outdoor Meditation All Seasons: Join the meditation group every Saturday outdoors in the beautiful setting of Fairy Lake Park at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., rain or shine, snow or sun, or blizzard (unless extreme.) Some mats, cushions, and chairs will be available. Dress appropriately for the weather, and feel free to bring a mat, cushion or folding chair if you like, but not necessary.

Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival at Kortright, to April 8: Come out and tap into spring with family-fun activities and maple syrup demonstrations. Weekdays: festival 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., demonstrations 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., gift shop 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., café 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Weekends, and Easter: festival 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., demonstrations 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., gift shop 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., café: 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets $7.45 to $11.50.

Tapestry Chamber Bach to Nature concert: Let Tapestry Chamber enchant you with the exquisite beauty of Bach plus the healing experience of choral favourite tributes to nature amid the resonant gothic nave of Newmarket's Saint Paul's Anglican Church, at 4:30 p.m. Guest conductor Michael Berec leads Tapestry in this priceless presentation of choral masterpieces. Tickets $25 online, $30 cash at the door.

Burning Red Writers Round Songwriters Open Mic: Bianca Rollo Music and Burning Red Writers Round host a songwriters open mic at the Main Street Music Hall, 140 Main St. in Newmarket. Twelve slots, two songs per artist. Signup starts at 1:15 p.m., performances 2 to 4 p.m. Original music only. All levels welcome and bring your own instruments.

Comedy Night in Aurora: The Tipsy Goose, 15171 Yonge St., Aurora hosts a comedy extravaganza by Ruthie Miller Productions and Not So Kosher Comedy from 7 to 9 p.m. Enjoy a laughter-filled journey as talented comedians take the stage, fearlessly navigating the hilarious nuances of life, relationships, and everything in between –nothing is off-limits and the only rule is to enjoy the ride. The Stampeders, One More Time, Thursday, April 11: It is with sadness and love that the Stampeders, the predominant Canadian rock 'n' roll band of the 1970s, announce the passing of longtime friend and bandmate Ronnie King. The tour intended to be his final bow will now be a tribute to, and celebration of, a beautiful friend and partner. Bassist Dave Chobot to has joined for this final run. It will be an evening filled with classic hits. Limited tickets available.

A Night of Illusion with illusionist Wij Siva, Friday, April 12: Northridge Church hosts illusionist Wij Siva. Doors open 7:30 p.m., how at 8 p.m. $40 per ticket, limited to 100 guests. Tickets and more info here.

Nick Maclean Quartet featuring Brownman Ali, Thursday, April 18: Celebrating the release of their recently Juno-nominated album Convergence, the Nick Maclean Quartet featuring decorated jazz trumpet iconoclast Brownman Ali is coming to Newmarket on their Ontario tour under the leadership of Global Music award-winning jazz pianist Nick Maclean. Woodstock Lives, Saturday, April 13: Glenn Marais and The Mojo Band and special guests bring peace, love and groovy tunes at 7 p.m., NewRoads Performing Arts Centre. Dress in your grooviest '60s clothes for this re-creation of the greatest concert ever held with music of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Santana, Sly and The Family Stone, The Who, CCR, The Grateful Dead, Joe Cocker and The Jefferson Airplane. First Newmarket Comedy Festival, Saturday, April 27: The first ever Newmarket Comedy Festival features a line-up of hilarious comedians, including Cathy Boyd (Canada’s Got Talent), Kyle Brownrigg (Just For Laughs, CraveTV), Ernie Vicente (Just For Laughs Originals), Daniel Shaw (Cottage Comedy), Evan Dubois (Just For Laughs Toronto and Newmarket’s own Jesse Ralph. Don’t miss this stand-up comedy showcase at the Old Town Hall at 7 p.m. Tickets $30 + tax.

Society of York Region Artists Art Show and Sale, May 4 to 5: The Town of Aurora and Society of York Region Artists host the 60th Annual Aurora Art Show and Sale with more than 300 pieces of artwork, including acrylic, oil, watercolour, photography, mixed media, and sculpture, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aurora Town Hall, 100 John West Way. Annual Community Plant Swap, Saturday, May 11: Newmarket Library holds its third plant swap, a great way to exchange plants with others and chat about growing and gardening, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the multipurpose room. Prepare by dividing your perennials such as hostas, irises and others, and place some in pots to share. Or take clippings from your houseplants and root them in pots.
