Friday, March 22

Film Fridays at Newmarket Library: Watch free movies at Film Fridays every Friday at Newmarket Public Library. Bring your own snacks, doors open at 1:45 p.m., movie starts at 2 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Writers Community of York Region Open Mic: WCYR hosts a free open mic at The Sticks Craft Beer Bar, 13 Main St. South, Newmarket from 7 to 9 p.m. Writers and readers and those who enjoy listening to writers read are invited, emceed by Erika MacNeil. RSVP as a reader or an audience member, capacity is limited. If time permits, readers may be added to the roster. Pieces should be P.G. so as not to offend anyone. The length of time you have to read will depend on the number of readers (keep it short enough to hold our attention).

Aurora Bridge Club: All are welcome to play duplicate bridge games with the Aurora Bridge Club from 12:15 to 4 p.m. at the Newmarket Veterans Association, 406 Millard Ave. Price $6 to $10.

Newmarket Spring Holistic Healing Fair: The fair features 40 holistic and wellness vendors and free speaker from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Newmarket Community Centre and Lions Hall, 200 Doug Duncan Dr. First 50 attendees get wellness swag bags. No admission fee.

Maker's Mark, Spring Pop-up Market: The Maker's Mark, 16655 Yonge St., Newmarket hosts its Spring Handmade Pop-up Market from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Step into a vibrant world of creativity and artisanal talent, and discover a treasure trove of handmade goods crafted by local makers, whether you're seeking the perfect gift or simply yearning to add a touch of handcrafted charm to your life.

Age to Perfection Wellness Fair: The fair offers exhibitors, presenters, giveaways, complimentary refreshments and more from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Newmarket Seniors’ Meeting Place, 474 Davis Dr.

Apprentice and Master concert presented by York Chamber Ensemble: The concert includes music by Tchaikovsky, Bach and Saint-Saens at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, at 227 Church St., Newmarket. Tickets are $35 for adults and $20 for students. Connon Nurseries Winter Farmers Market: Connon Nurseries, 1870 Davis Dr. West, King, holds a farmers market with an array of vendors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday until March 30.

Outdoor Meditation All Seasons: Join the meditation group every Saturday outdoors in the beautiful setting of Fairy Lake Park at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., rain or shine, snow or sun, or blizzard (unless extreme.) Some mats, cushions, and chairs will be available. Dress appropriately for the weather, and feel free to bring a mat, cushion or folding chair if you like, but not necessary.

Beer and Chocolate Pairing: Old Flame's had brewer and Cocoa40's chocolatier will guide you through chocolate pairings with seasonal favourite beers from 2 to 4 p.m at Old Flame, 140 Main St., Newmarket. Ticket, $30 includes a flight of four beers, four delicious gourmet chocolates, led tasting, and munchies.

Burning Red Writers Round: This month's Burning Red Writers Round features an all-female showcase at Old Flame Brewing Co., 140 Main St. S. at 6:30 p.m. This monthly Nashville-style writers' round is performed upstairs at Old Flame Brewery in Newmarket, in the Main Street Music Hall. Showcasing Canadian music and songwriting in all genres.

River Town Saints at Main Street Music Hall, Friday, March 29: River Town Saints play from 8 to 10 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.) at the Main Street Music Hall (upstairs at the Old Flame Brewery) at 140 Main St., Newmarket.The band's live show is electric, blending amazing harmonies with high-energy musicianship. They have played at some of the biggest festivals in the country, fairs, rodeos, fundraisers, and awards shows like the CMAOs and CCMAs. Tickets are $40 for early bird advance, and $45 at the door. Bring a non-perishable food item. 

Hello Spring at the Aurora Seniors Centre, Saturday, March 30: Spring into the season with Hello Spring from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 90 John West Way. Wristbands are $5 per person and are only sold at the Aurora Family Leisure Complex, Aurora Joint Operations Centre, Aurora Town Hall, and Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex. There will be lots of egg-citing activities, including meet the Easter Bunny, story walks, a hopstacle course, face painting, and LaSalle’s Farm will have an educational animal display with goats, lambs, chicks, and more adorable spring animals. Free goodie bag filled with treats and crafts for ages 12 and younger. '80 '90s Dance Party, Friday, April 5: They'll be playing your song — and there are prizes for the best moves and costumes — at the dance party in support of CHATS at 8 p.m. at the Old Town Hall, Botsford Street, Newmarket. Tickets $30.

Newmarket Home & Lifestyle Show, April 6 to 7: The Newmarket Home & Lifestyle Show, the biggest home show in York Region, returns to the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with more than 150 exhibitor spaces, including landscaping, renovating, decorating and more.

Newmarket Library Author Event, Saturday, April 6: TikTok influencer and Math In Drag author Kyne Santos is coming to Newmarket to highlight the many creative ways mathematics can be taught. Newmarket Library is hosting the free event with former Canada’s Drag Race competitor, whose book combines a love of drag with a knowledge of math. You'll have the opportunity to meet the author, ask questions and get a copy of Math In Drag signed. Free tickets to the event, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Newmarket Old Town Hall, 460 Botsford St., are available here.

The Stampeders, One More Time, Thursday, April 11: It is with sadness and love that the Stampeders, the predominant Canadian rock 'n' roll band of the 1970s, announce the passing of longtime friend and bandmate Ronnie King. The tour intended to be his final bow will now be a tribute to, and celebration of, a beautiful friend and partner. Bassist Dave Chobot to has joined for this final run. It will be an evening filled with classic hits. Limited tickets available.

A Night of Illusion with illusionist Wij Siva, Friday, April 12: Northridge Church hosts illusionist Wij Siva. Doors open 7:30 p.m., how at 8 p.m. $40 per ticket, limited to 100 guests. Tickets and more info here

Society of York Region Artists Art Show and Sale, May 4 to 5: The Town of Aurora and Society of York Region Artists host the 60th Annual Aurora Art Show and Sale with more than 300 pieces of artwork, including acrylic, oil, watercolour, photography, mixed media, and sculpture, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aurora Town Hall, 100 John West Way.
