Friday, Oct. 27

Film Fridays at Newmarket Public Library: No registration required, just drop in and enjoy a free movie in the multipurpose room at 2 p.m., doors open at 1:45 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Oct. 27 Sleepy Hollow (1999) Based on Washington Irving’s classic story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, this thriller stars Christina Ricci and Johnny Depp as Ichabod Crane, who vows to travel a road haunted by the The Headless Horsman. Rated AA

Haunted Halloween Trail, Oct. 27 and 28: If you dare, take a walk on the portion of the Dave Kerwin Trail (about 1K) transformed with scary decorations, lighting, sound effects and actors in costumes, from 7 to 10 p.m., 325 Woodspring Ave. Ages 10 and older.

Newmarket Scream, Oct. 27 and 28: Newmarket LOUD proudly presents Newmarket SCREAM at Ten Gallon Bar and Grill. This 2023 Newmarket LOUD Events series finale will feature some of the top independent punk and metal bands York/Simcoe has to offer (along with a few out of region guest bands promising to bring the house down as well). The inaugural Halloween festival includes door prizes for best costumes. All proceeds will be donated to The Newmarket Food Pantry.$15 at door or $20 for Two Night Scream Pass + non-perishable food donation. Doors at 6:30 pm. Rose Cora Perry and The Truth Untold Set Oct. 27 at 8:45 p.m. Friday night lineup: Four Two Nothing, The Speedhumps, Battlescarred, By Octopi, Hysterics, Hey Slugger & The Readys. Saturday night lineup: The Fractured, Wolf Fang Fist, Hell Diver, Out of Spite, Die Sci Fi, Bilious, Cadillac Blood, Burdizzo & It Cometh.

Saturday, Oct. 28

College Manor Park Cleanup: Central Ontario Geocachers hosts a free geocaching-themed community cleanup at the park at 705 College Manor Dr., Newmarket from 4 to 6 p.m. Contact [email protected], text 289-779-7468 for more details.

Trick or Treats Trail: The Town of Newmarket hosts a free trick-or-treat trail from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring a family-friendly walk along the Dave Kerwin Trail at Environmental Park with spooky decorations, animatronics and actors in costume, children under the age of 10 and their families are invited to come dressed up in their Halloween costumes and get a head start on trick-or-treating. Registration is not required, with the experience being first-come, first-serve. Bring a non-perishable food item to the Newmarket Food Pantry, with collection booths at the trail.

Haunted Hollows Scream Show: Experience the 2.5-acre Scream Park that features live actors, a series animatronics, special effects and custom scenes from 7 to 10 p.m., 18444 Yonge St., East Gwillimbury. Follow twisted trails into the dark forest and come face to face with your deepest fears. Among the crooked and gnarled trees, you'll encounter horrifying clowns, ghouls, giant spiders, murderous inmates, ravenous cannibalsderanged mental patients, and demented doctors. Try your luck at the carnival where you can shoot zombies in the face with face paintballs or play the axe-throwing game. Have your picture taken in one of many Halloween photo ops. Lay dead in a casket, or snap a picture with our massive pumpkin. Tickets $44 to 97.77.

Newmarket Farmers' Market: It's a Halloween party from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the last farmers market of the season. Riverwalk Commons in historic downtown Newmarket is transformed into a vibrant market space. Connect with local farmers, enjoy a delicious treat, discover unique artisans or take in some live music while visiting with family and friends. International Jive-The Basics for Your Next Energetic Dance, Sundays, to Nov. 12: Simple Social Dancing invites you to come and learn how to dance to music such as Shania Twain's Man, I Feel Like a Woman, rock tunes (think Miley Cyrus’ Flowers) or Christina Aguilera’s Candyman and Big Band swing music at Newmarket Public Library, 638 Park Ave., from 5 to 6:10 p.m. Registration $5.

Wonderland Halloween Haunt: Halloween Haunt returns to Canada’s Wonderland in Vaughan with a sinister transformation, turning the theme park into a scream park filled with Halloween attractions that offer unforgettable thrills and unspeakable horror. Immerse yourself in the nightmare of Haunt, with seven mazes, terrifying scare zones, hundreds of monsters, thrilling night rides and amazing live entertainment including the return of the Day of the Dead Festival. Trick-or-Treat on Main Street, Wed., Nov. 1: Newmarket Main Street BIA hosts more Halloween fun in downtown Newmarket, with sponsors The Postmark Hotel and OVFH. Kids are invited to wear costumes and trick-or-treat at participating locations (look for the pumpkin poster in the window) on Main, Timothy and Botsford streets from 4 to 6 p.m.

Fill a Purse for a Sister Campaign Purse Party, Thursday, Nov. 2: Support women in crisis in our community by joining Newmarket's 9th annual Fill a Purse for a Sister Campaign free party at The George, 236 Main St. from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. with special guests, fabulous prizes, entertainment courtesy of Bianca Rollo, and appetizers courtesy of Irv at The George, and Deb's Dips. Joni Mitchell Tribute Concert, Saturday, Nov. 4: Aimée Claxton will performing selections from Joni Mitchell’s wonderful catalogue of songs, spanning her incredible career, with her band, which includes Brandon Wall on guitar, Jeff Deegan on bass, Chris Pruden on keys, and Robin Claxton on drums.
