Traffic petitions galore

There are several traffic and road-related issues coming to council next week.

Residents in the neighbourhood around the intersection of Dixon and William Roe Blvd. are asking for an all-way stop there because of the high number of speeding motorists. Town staff are advising council to deny this request.

William Roe has been reviewed multiple times, and it was determined that the proposal would cause traffic problems. A study of vehicle speeds on the nearby streets found that, on average, they were only just above the legal limit, making them pretty normal for Newmarket.

Another petition from residents near Flagstone Way is asking for speed humps to be installed on the street between Aspenwood Drive and Bonshaw Avenue. Town staff are recommending against these as well.

Staff found that the volume of traffic on the road was significantly lower than in past years, likely due to the pandemic, and that speeds along the street are within an acceptable range.

A third petition from residents asked for measures to reduce speeding on Simcoe Street between Main and Niagara streets. Staff is recommending a solar-powered radar display to remind people how fast they are going.
