Newmarket council is finalizing its plans for what "urban design" will look like in the municipality.

workshop on Monday, June 28 will help council finalize its urban design guidelines, which will guide urban planning going forward, including how developments might better fit in existing neighbourhoods.

"Building on the Town’s existing policies, the town-wide guidelines create a ‘one-stop shop’ to ensure new development promotes high-quality design and reinforces a healthy, vibrant and complete community," the presentation from Fotenn Planning and Design states.

The guidelines would apply to all development applications across the town and include objectives such as ensuring they fit harmoniously, mitigating impacts on adjacent properties, promoting vibrant streets, and providing amenity space for residents.

"Newmarket is a growing community where higher density types of development is becoming more common," the municipality said on its website.

The document has been in the works since January 2020, with two public information sessions happening in 2021. After the workshop, council will be asked to approve the plan later this summer.

Public input previously gathered is included in the presentation. Council will make no decisions at the meeting.

The meeting will be streamed live at 1 p.m. at newmarket.ca/meetings.
