Walk for Alzheimer’s supports York residents impacted by dementia

Alzheimer Society of York Region event on May 25 raises funds needed to meet the growing demand for social and recreational programs, while also providing caregiver support and respite

Joining the annual the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s on Saturday, May 25 supports the more than 17,000 individuals in York Region living with dementia, and their caregivers.

The Alzheimer Society of York Region (AS York) event raises vital funds to support the rising need for programs and services for York Region residents impacted by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
The number of residents living with dementia is expected to double by 2033. And for every one person diagnosed with this fatal disease, which does not have a cure, another 10 to 12 people are directly impacted, according to an AS York news release.

“Dementia not only affects the person living with the disease, but also their caregivers who often become isolated as the disease advances,” said AS York CEO Kari Quinn-Humphrey.

AS York provides people living with dementia social and recreational programming while also providing caregivers programs and services that provide respite, education and support.

The walk is the largest event in York Region that raises both awareness of the disease and funds to support local families impacted by dementia.

All money raised in York Region stays in York Region.
