Neighbourhood Network is hosting its annual spring tree planting event Saturday, May 13 in Newmarket, East Gwillimbury and King.

Volunteers are needed to help plant trees, mulch plants and clean up garbage.

High school students can earn community involvement/Christian community service hours.

“Last year, we were honoured to be recognized by the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority for our efforts in planting more than 22,000 trees and shrubs across the northern York Region since our spring tree planting program began,” said Erin Cerenzia, manager of community relations. “Today, we’re calling on volunteers to sign up and help us continue building greener communities together.”

In Newmarket, planting takes place at the Magna Centre at 800 Mulock Dr., on the trail behind Nellie Little Crescent.

In East Gwillimbury, the event takes place at Radial Line Park, 981 Murrell Blvd., off Mount Albert Road.

In King, the planting event is at Schomberg Community Farm at 6335 Highway 9, off Western Avenue.

This event is rain, snow, or shine on Saturday, May 13, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Pre-registration is required at nnetwork.org.
