It's still summer, but Newmarket’s Santa Claus parade committee is already gearing up for this year’s event.

In preparation for the parade, which is slated for Saturday, Nov. 18, the committee is searching to fill its volunteer band co-ordinator and treasurer positions.

“The Santa Claus Parade Committee is looking for two dedicated and hard-working Newmarket community members who would be interested in volunteering their time,” a job description on the town website said.

In the weeks ahead of the parade, the band co-ordinator position is expected to attend committee meetings and provide band updates; contact schools and cadets to determine participation; and assist the float co-ordinator with parade setup.

On parade day, the band co-ordinator needs to arrive early to help direct traffic and set up the bands' order. They will then work with the float co-ordinator at the start of the parade near Stuart Scott Public School.

“It is their job to co-ordinate the entry of all the floats and bands into the parade start,” the job description said.

For the treasurer position, during September and October, they will be expected to work with the chair and past treasurer to change signing authority and attend committee meetings, provide financial updates, and present financial statements.

In November, they will then need to prepare cheque payments for REACT, bands, and other expenses.

Parade day will consist of assisting the parade day marshal, presenting a cheque to REACT, and collecting receipts.

If you’re interested or have any questions, the committee can be contacted by email at [email protected].

The Santa Claus parade is Nov. 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Eagle Street and Main Street.
