A woman visiting Markham from Egypt is the eighth positive case of COVID-19 in York Region.
The 30-year-old woman from Cairo is currently self-isolated and being monitored closely by York Region public health, according to a Region of York news release today.
This woman arrived from Egypt on Thursday, March 5, and tested positive on Monday, March 9.
There is no evidence to date of community, or person-to-person, spread of the disease locally and the risk to residents remains low, York’s medical officer of health, Dr. Karim Kurji, said.
York Region public health is now requiring local residents who visit Iran or Hubei province in China to self-isolate for a 14-day period upon return and stay home from school, work, and not attend social gatherings to help stop transmission and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The region is now now updating its dedicated web page twice daily at 10:45 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. with information on York Region COVID-19 cases reported to date.
Symptoms of COVID-19 can include fever, cough and shortness of breath.
