Canadian music supergroup Lunch At Allen’s is coming to Newmarket for the last stop on their Ontario tour this December.

The group will be playing NewRoads Performing Arts Centre, 505 Pickering Cres., on Dec. 21.

“They are Canadian song writing royalty who will take you on a journey with humour and stories playing their familiar hits and new songs as well to create an evening of music for the heart and music for your soul,” a news release for the tour said.

Murray McLauchlan, Cindy Church, Marc Jordan and Ian Thomas formed the band in 2004. Individually, they’ve written for or sung on over 25,000,000 CD’s and are known for their contributions as songwriters to music heavyweights such as Chicago, Santana, Cher, and Rod Stewart.

Since putting out their debut album Lunch At Allen’s in 2004, the band has put out four more albums, including its Christmas album, 2012’s Zuzu's Petals: A Lunch At Allen's Christmas.

Each rose to prominence in their own way, with McLauchlan as a multi-instrumentalist with Canadian hits, Church as a solo country and folk artist, Jordan as songwriter and producer, and Thomas as a songwriter and author.

Prior to forming the quartet would often meet for lunch at Allen’s restaurant on Danforth Avenue in Toronto.

The band came to be when McLauchlan, who hadn’t performed in multiple years, was diagnosed with a heart issue requiring quadruple-bypass heart surgery. That same year, the group released its self-titled album.

Initially, the group was supposed to be short-lived with an eight-stop tour in 2004, but have continued on ever since.

Doors for the performance in Newmarket are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21. Tickets can be purchased here.
