Local graduating high school students who give back to their community can apply for a $1,000 award from Neighbourhood Network.

The annual Give Back Awards are back, as part of Neighbourhood Network's effort to recognize students' work in the community.

The award is given to 20 students graduating high school in Aurora, Georgina, King Township, Newmarket and Whitchurch-Stouffville who have "demonstrated an outstanding dedication to community involvement."

Erin Cerenzia, manager of community relations at Neighbourhood Network, said it is encouraging to see the creative ways students are giving back and getting involved.

“The Give Back Awards are all about celebrating these unique and positive contributions, and the inspirational ways that students help us build better communities together," she said.

Students who are eligible can submit an application telling the organization about themselves, in what ways they give back, and why they feel called to help.

Applicants must also include a sponsor endorsement letter from a non-family member who can speak to their involvement in the community.

The applications are due March 24 and can be submitted online

Students applying for the award must be available to attend the Give Back Awards reception on Thursday, April 20.

The winners will be announced during National Volunteer Week, which runs from April 16 to 22, with the reception falling during that week.
