NEWS RELEASE
SPORT AURORA
*************************
It isn’t headline news that today’s kids spend too much time on their devices, and not enough time running, jumping, or playing sports.

Schools offer only part of the solution, with 20 minutes of daily physical activity mandated in the elementary school curriculum — not enough to hit the 60 minutes recommended by ParticipACTION.

But not all families can afford the cost of organized sport. Thankfully, programs like Sport Aurora’s All Kids Can Play (AKCP) have been helping these kids build friendships and enjoy healthy physical activity. At the local level, Sport Aurora member organizations have provided some assistance to children and families in need, while AKCP has been removing additional financial barriers, and filling any gaps left by national organizations like Jumpstart.

While financial donations are always welcome, this month AKCP will be collecting all types of used sports equipment. If you have items that are still in good condition, please donate generously to help kids in need. If you have equipment you would like to swap for something else, come see us.

Collection days:

Oct. 21, 9 to 11 a.m., Aurora Community Tennis Club (McMahon Park, 76 Maple St.). Please come to the parking lot, not the building.
Oct. 28, 9 to 11 a.m., Aurora Community Tennis Club (McMahon Park, 76 Maple St.). Please come to the parking lot, not the building.
Nov. 4, 9 to 11 a.m., Aurora Community Tennis Club (McMahon Park, 76 Maple St.). Please come to the parking lot, not the building.
