Southlake Regional Health Centre physicians will be strutting their stuff for a good cause at the men’s fashion event of the year.
To raise money for Stronach Regional Cancer Centre, MR Menswear is hosting its third annual Whiskey, Wine & MR Menswear event at the NewRoads Performing Arts Centre Nov. 1.
The fundraising goal this year is $50,000 with the event having raised 81 per cent of its goal thus far with $40,718 raised.
Southlake Foundation president and CEO Jennifer Ritter said they’re unbelievably excited about the event and grateful for the community’s support.
It’s extra special for the foundation this year, she said, because not only is it connecting Southlake physicians, staff and volunteers with the community, but this year, it is raising funds in support of the HERE is Where Cancer Meets its Match Campaign.
“We are over 60 per cent of the way toward our campaign goal, and it’s events like this, and community fundraisers like Mike Rathke who activate their networks in support of our hospital, that will help us reach our goal,” she said.
Rathke, the president and owner of MR Menswear in Aurora, is a two-time cancer survivor and longtime supporter of Southlake.
He’s been giving back to the community through various events since 2002 and estimates that he’s raised over $40,000 for Southlake.
Rathke says he’s supported Southlake because people in the community have been supporting him all these years.
Those wishing to support the event through a donation can either donate generally or in support of one of Southlake’s physician models here. Donations will be counted to determine "Southlake’s Next Top Model." The fundraiser also has a silent auction component, which can be found here.
The Whiskey, Wine, & MR Menswear fundraiser is Nov. 1 at the NewRoads Performing Arts Centre, 505 Pickering Cres., from 6:30 p.m. to 10. Tickets can be purchased here.
