ENVIRONMENT CANADA
*************************
Snow squall warning issued for:
Newmarket - Georgina - Northern York Region, Ont.

Current details:
Heavy snow squall expected near Lake Simcoe this afternoon into early this evening.

This snow squall warning replaces the winter weather travel advisory previously in effect.

Hazards:
Lake effect snow bands producing local accumulations of 10 to 15 cm.
Peak snowfall rates of 2 to 3 cm per hour.
Reduced visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Timing:
Through this afternoon and ending this evening.

Discussion:
Lake effect snow will impact areas near Lake Simcoe this afternoon before moving north of the region this evening.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
