The third annual She Shoots, She Saves campaign is underway at Central York Girls Hockey Association.
Until March 8, local athletes will be taking hockey shots and raising money for outdoor SaveStations with AED machines.
The campaign first started in 2019-2020 season when Raychel Gillies, who played for the Central York Panthers, was timekeeping at her dad's hockey game when the goalie went into cardiac arrest. Gillies performed CPR and used an AED, saving his life.
The heroic act inspired teams in the Central York Girls Hockey Association to raise money for AED and since then they have successfully placed seven of the machines in Newmarket and Aurora.
They are fundraising again this year in hopes of making AED machines even more accessible and raising awareness of CPR and the devices.
The association launched this year's campaign at a Jr. Panthers hockey game on Feb. 25, where everyone had the opportunity to learn about CPR and how to use an AED.
You can donate to a team online and follow along with the campaign on the Central York Girls Hockey Association's social media.
