Ride for free on York Region Transit on New Year's Eve

You can ride for free on York Region Transit (YRT) on New Year’s Eve after 7 p.m.

The service is also extending late-night service on select route to until approximately 4 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024. See extended late-night service times for more details.

The free travel after 7 p.m. on Dec. 31 applies to all YRT and TTC routes operating north of Steeles Avenue in York Region. 

YRT service changes will also take effect on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023 and Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024. Schedule and route adjustments will be made on select routes to match customer demand.

Jan. 7, 2024 changes include: 

  • Reinstating high school special routes suspended during two-week holiday closure
  • Restructuring Route 26 Maple to provide two-way service north of Major Mackenzie Drive; service will be extended to Maple GO Station and midday service will be discontinued
  • Discontinuing Route 98E Yonge (Limited Express) to match service levels with ridership demand on Yonge Street and to avoid duplication of service; customers can continue using Viva blue, 98 and 99 Yonge
  • Extending Route 165 Weston to service Major Mackenzie West Terminal and discontinuing Route 165F; customers can continue using Route 21 Vellore
  • Extending On-Request Keswick to service the new Multi-use Recreation Facility
