CITY OF RICHMOND HILL

Richmond Hill is taking steps toward becoming an age-friendly community, so everyone can participate and feel included in city life. The city is now accepting applications for members to join Richmond Hill’s first-ever age-friendly community council.
In 2021, the City held community consultations to help identify issues facing the aging population in our community. Richmond Hill Council received the age-friendly community needs assessment in May 2022, supporting the establishment of an age-friendly community council to help create the goals and recommendations for an age-friendly community strategy.
Apply to Join
The council will consist of Richmond Hill residents aged 55+, as well as representatives from local businesses and community organizations that serve older adults in Richmond Hill. All members will participate for a two-year term, with meetings held three times a year.
Application forms are available online and in the office of the clerk at the main Municipal Offices, 225 East Beaver Creek Rd. Deadline for submission is 4 p.m. on Dec. 7, 2022.

• Older adults aged 55+ comprised 32 per cent of Richmond Hill’s population in the 2021 census and that percentage is expected to grow.
• In a 2021 community survey, the majority of respondents rated Richmond Hill as a very good or excellent place to live as they age and felt strongly that Richmond Hill should continue to be their home as they age.
• The World Health Organization’s age-friendly cities approach highlights a number of categories that communities can address to better adapt their structures and services to the needs of older people. Richmond Hill’s age-friendly community initiative will focus on all areas of community life identified.
