Prepare to be thrilled at Newmarket’s Old Flame Brewery when multi-award-winning jazz trumpeter Brownman Ali brings his Michael Jackson album tour to local fans.

Ali and “an all-star quartet” are stopping in Newmarket Oct. 26 as part of his annual Halloween concert tour. Going through six cities, the band will perform the entire Michael Jackson Thriller album, interpreted in an electric jazz style.

Ali said the material makes for a dance party that is still rooted in exploratory improvisation and solos.

"Delving so deeply into that record always leaves us speechless," Ali said. "Michael birthed so many incredible tunes over the years, but his collaborations with Quincy Jones on Thriller has to be one of the most towering musical achievements in pop music ever.”

The band is well acclaimed. The Brownman Electryc Trio has won two National Jazz Awards, three Toronto Independent Music Awards for Jazz Group of the Year, a SOCAN music award, a CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award, and an International Independent Music Award for 2015 Jazz-Funk album of the year for the album Gravitation, which hit number 4 on the iTunes USA jazz charts upon its release.

Ali himself is well regarded with a wide array of accolades and “is considered to be one of the most unique and provocative improvising trumpet players in the nation today and is widely regarded as a vanguard for the evolution of Jazz in Canada,” according to a news release.

Joining the trio made up of Ali, bassist Matt Gruebner and drummer Adam Mansfield is keyboardist Nick Maclean, winner of 10 Global Music Awards that celebrate independent artists.

The Newmarket concert is Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. at Old Flame Brewing Co at 120 Main St. S. Tickets are $20 at the door or $15 in advance at eventbrite.ca/e/726076122227.

The tour continues with stops in Kitchener, Oshawa, Guelph, Toronto and St. Catharines.
