Pop-up COVID-19 clinics are coming to Newmarket and area this week as York Region shifts away from offering the doses at mass-vaccination centres.

On Thursday, Aug. 26, the walk-in clinic will be open in downtown at Riverwalk Commons from noon to 7 p.m.

This coincides with the next Music In the Park concert, which is also taking place that evening.

The clinic will offer doses of both Moderna and Pfizer and no appointments are needed.

This is one of many pop-up vaccine centres operating in York Region this week.

Cineplex Newmarket (East Gwillimbury) on Yonge Street will also be hosting a pop-up clinic from Aug. 24 to 27.

It will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day with doses of Moderna and Pfizer offered.

There will also be vaccination clinics at Aurora’s Ribfest Friday, Aug. 27 and Saturday, Aug. 28 and several other locations across the region.

Residents who are looking to receive either their first or second dose are encouraged to check the region’s website often for the most up to date information and the locations of the pop-ups.

In an effort to get more children and educators fully vaccinated before the school year, York Region is also offering vaccines at four schools this week.

Pop-up clinics will be held tomorrow, on Wednesday, Aug. 25, from noon to 7 p.m. at the following schools:

  • Sutton District High School in Georgina;
  • Markville Secondary School in Markham;
  • Keswick High School in Georgina;
  • Maple High School in Vaughan.

So far in York Region, 873,235 residents have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, accounting for 82.9 per cent of the population aged 12 and up.

To date, 77.1 per cent of the eligible population are fully vaccinated, which is 811,984 residents.
