Newmarket’s library patrons will have to go without the outdoor book drop-off as construction starts on the library’s ramps, starting April 11.

The library announced that the construction will be repairing the library’s front ramp and stairs. A temporary ramp will be in place to allow access to the building during the construction process.

Library CEO Tracy Munusami said the project is for maintenance.

"This is a maintenance project meant to protect the life of the building and to protect from any water damage in the future," she said. "The construction will fix any cracks we have in the concrete and reseal surfaces."

You can still return books inside the library or use the book return at the Upper Canada Mall. The mall book return is located on the lower level near the Shoppers Drug Mart.

Although after-hours drop-off will not be available at the library during this time, the library no longer charges late fees, a move started during the pandemic.

Munusami said they hope to have construction finished in early May.

“We apologize for any inconvenience,” the library said.
