NEWS RELEASE
REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY OF YORK
*************************
Can you imagine Shanghai without the Shanghai Tower, the world’s second tallest building? Or New York City without Times Square? On Wednesday, Oct. 31, York Region will celebrate World Cities Day.There are so many great urban locations in York Region worth exploring.

Starting today we’re asking residents to participate in a photo contest sharing the urban places and spaces that give them a reason to #loveyr.

York Region is one of Canada’s largest regional municipalities and the second largest business centre in Canada. Our urban centres are where people can live, work and play, with options available for transportation, employment, housing, retail, entertainment, education and access to services.

Examples of urban places can be seen through the Region’s four urban growth centres in Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill and Vaughan.

In recognition of World Cities Day you are encouraged to celebrate York Region’s urban places and spaces.

Between Oct. 25 and Nov. 12 post a photo of your favourite buildings or the bustling businesses that defines a downtown or urban area in your community to Instagram using the hashtags #itsyourpicyr and #loveyr for the chance to win a Visa gift card.

Photos will be used as Regional staff updates the York Region Official Plan and look to build more of what you love. For more information visit york.ca/itsyourpic.

Tell us the kind of place you want York Region to be. York Region is currently undertaking a review of the York Region Official Plan as a component of a broader Municipal Comprehensive Review. An updated Regional Official Plan, will guide the Region’s population and employment growth.

We want the public to directly participate in shaping the Region’s planned community structure. Learn more here.
