ON THE STREET: Newmarket residents talk speed cameras

Newmarket is planning to start a new program to install automated speed enforcement in the community.

Newmarket is planning to start a new program to install additional automated speed enforcement in the community.

Council's committee of the whole voted to advance the proposal, which would see cameras installed at select locations that could take photos of speeders for easier ticketing. The resolution means staff will explore the issue further, and although the town has not yet committed to making the program happen, Mayor John Taylor said the cameras could make streets safer.

NewmarketToday asked local residents what they thought about the idea.
