Newmarket-Aurora MP Tony Van Bynen is seeking nominees for pins to celebrate the queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The federal government is looking for outstanding citizens in Newmarket-Aurora to honour as the Queen celebrates her Platinum Jubilee.

Newmarket-Aurora MP Tony Van Bynen announced he would be presenting several Platinum Jubilee pins, recognizing 70 years of rule for Queen Elizabeth II. The pins will be awarded to those who have made a significant community contribution, with a June 21 deadline for nominations.

“Kindness, charity, and acts of service deserved to be recognized. I am honoured to be able to present Platinum Jubilee pins to influential individuals in our community who strive to make a difference for those around them,” Van Bynen said in a news release.

Platinum Jubilee celebrations are occurring throughout the month in Canada and the United Kingdom. The pins are being given out to deserving individuals in ridings across the country through MPs.

The pin features the jubilee emblem, which makes specific reference to the Queen, with seven maple leaves and seven pearls to mark seven decades since Queen Elizabeth II's ascent to the throne.

You can submit a local nomination through a Google form linked here. The form asks you to describe the contribution your nominee has made to the community.

“I encourage everyone to nominate a friend, family member, or colleague who aims to make our community a better place to live,” Van Bynen said.
