The loss of Newmarket's Junior A hockey team, the Hurricanes, was just one of the many important stories we have covered in the last eight months. Greg King for NewmarketToday

World News Day helps to highlight the importance of independent, reliable journalism. It celebrates the stories, the people, the reporting and the professional news organizations who are responsible for creating and sharing news around the world.

Here at NewmarketToday, we are dedicated to bringing you the stories that matter most in our community. We share your neighbours’ accomplishments, alert you to breaking news, and hold those in power accountable.

Reporting on the news is a 24/7 job. Our passionate local team works to provide Newmarket with informative and engaging content, with news updated as it happens.

Over the past eight months, NewmarketToday has been with you through elections, snow storms and fancy shmancy fundraisers.

When loved ones were left grieving for a mother of three who died in a tragic collision, we were there to tell you who she was, and how much she would be missed.

As we commemorate World News Day and the important community role we hold as a platform for sharing news and information with you each day, we would also like to take a minute to thank you, the community, for demonstrating local news matters by continuing to visit NewmarketToday.
