Newmarket's iconic drag Haus of Devereaux has received the platinum award in the 2024 Barrie Community Votes entertainment category.

“We are exceptionally honoured to once again be recognized in one of our local communities,” said matriarch E’Claire Devereaux. “We’re proud to have a long and successful history in Barrie and look forward to another sensational year ahead.”

The Haus of Devereaux is one of Canada’s top drag performance groups consisting of eight members and two apprentices, including E’Claire, founding member Athena Vegas, and 2023 Miss Trillium Carmen Del Rae.

Over the past year, the Haus of Devereaux has delivered some of Barrie’s most well received and talked about drag shows, including the Battle of Barrie, Spring Queening, and their popular holiday fundraiser benefiting local charities.

Barrie members of the Haus include 2024 Live Entertainment gold winner Jemm Doshay, 2024 Entertainer silver winner Queenie ZaDhal’ and bronze winner Justine D’as. Justine, along with 2024 Entertainer top pick (apprentice) Justin Cider were crowned Ms. And Mr. Port Hope Pride last month and will return to the town for a Pride celebration in June.

Justine is familiar to many in Barrie as the host of Let’s Be Perfectly Queer on Rogers TV Barrie and having won the Fierté Simcoe Pride – Person of the Year in August 2023.

“Barrie is where I grew up and where I call home, it’s a privilege to work and play in this incredible community,” said Justine. “Please continue to support local drag and opportunities to make our community an inclusive place for all.”

Community Votes “has been the leading Community Voting awards platform for media outlets since 2014 … (and) provide(s) each community a place where its members can recognize the outstanding businesses and services that make our lives that much better each day.”

The campaign began earlier this spring with a nomination period, followed by rounds of voting to determine top chooses in each category.

Jemm Doshay received the Entertainer of the Year platinum award in 2023 and will host a Pride month kick-off show on June 1 at Grillicious Restaurant & Wine Bar (2 Marsellus Dr.) along with Justine D’as, Queenie ZaDhal’ and curated open stage performers.

Tickets are $10 and available through [email protected].
