Newmarket is inviting the public to enjoy a night of fireworks, concerns and free coffee at its annual Tim Hortons First Night event on New Year’s Eve.

The town will host the free event at the Magna Centre, with festivities starting at noon. Activities will include free public skating and swimming, coffee, fireworks and a live outdoor concert by the band Switchbeat.

“Bring the whole family and celebrate the new year,” the town said on social media.

Free public skating and swimming will run from noon to 3 p.m. After that, the outdoor concert will run from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Magna Centre East Parking Lot, along with free coffee from Tim Hortons going from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The event will conclude with a fireworks display going from 6 to 6:15 p.m.

Switchbeat is a Toronto-based live music band, that bills itself as a "dynamic group of young musicians" with a repertoire including pop, R&B, dance, retro, funk, rock and more.

The town said children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
