Newmarket man's heroic rescue reunites baby bunny with family (5 photos)

It was a happy ending for the little bunny that was saved from drowning in the sewage system

Adrian Morar leapt into action, without a thought for his own safety, when he saw the wascally baby fall through the storm drain.

Baby bunny, that is.

The Newmarket resident was enjoying a stroll with his family on Primrose Lane, near London Road, last week when they noticed the little rabbit hopping along the curb, nearly camouflauged among the debris.

They gasped in horror when they saw it hop right through the opening in the storm drain.

His daughter, Teia, was yelling "help, help", frightened for the little bunny's fate, he said.

People on the street began gathering, Morar added.

Next thing you know, without thinking twice, he had managed to remove the grate and was soon hanging down into the opening, with his wife, Francesca, holding onto his feet for dear life.

"After about 10 minutes, I was able to get it out with my hat, while my wife held my feet, and we saved him," said Morar triumphantly. "His family was very happy!"

After saving the bunny from drowning, the Morar family, who are newcomers from Romania, carefully massaged its little belly, which was full of water, he said.

Just as they were wondering what to do next with the recovered rabbit, Morar said they noticed its "mother and father starting to look for him" nearby.

"We released him and they took him home," the hero said of the happy ending.
