Saying “yes” to Encore paid off for James Stables of Newmarket.
He matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order in the Nov. 8, 2023 Pick 3 draw to win $100,000.
James, a retiree, said he’s been a regular lottery player since Day 1.
“My favourite games are Pick 3 and Pick 4 — I always say yes to Encore,” he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his windfall.
While at the store, James checked his tickets using the ticket checker.
“The last ticket I checked said ‘Big Winner’ and I thought it couldn’t be right. I took a deep breath and after the third scan, I figured it couldn’t be an error and I went home to tell my wife.”
James said this whole experience was pretty shocking at first.
“I was jittery from excitement — I felt like I was in a daze. It was fun.”
He plans to do some work around the house and will treat himself and his wife to a little shopping spree to celebrate.

The winning ticket was purchased at Art’s Variety on Eagle Street in Newmarket.
