Newmarket families can start planning for summer fun as the town released its summer camp guide March 28.

The guide outlines the municipality’s selection of more than 30 unique kids camps set to begin running in July. Registration opens for Newmarket residents April 6 and to non-residents April 13.

Mayor John Taylor said camps are a chance to once again get out and active.

“Throughout the pandemic, we have learned that physical activity and social interaction are crucial for our children’s mental health and well-being,” Taylor said in the guide. “Newmarket’s summer camps are one way to provide your children the opportunity to stay active and make lasting friendships and memories.”

The camps range from general programming to specialty camps for activities like art, cooking, engineering, sports and more. The town will also offer daily drop-in camps with no registration required and an extended care program for before and after camp times.

“Newmarket has so many wonderful camps this season to meet the interests of everyone,” Taylor said. “Whatever their interests are, there’s a camp for everyone.”

Day camps were allowed to resume in-person last year after the pandemic prevented that in 2020. The town said it would follow the legislation outlined by the Ministry of Health, and it will send the most up-to-date COVID-19 information to parents before the start of camp. The guide does not mention face coverings, a requirement the town lifted at its facilities March 21.

Registration will begin April 6 at 6:30 a.m. for residents and April 13 at 6:30 a.m. for non-residents. You can register online through play.newmarket.ca or in-person at one of the town’s customer service kiosks. The town said in-person registration reduces your chance of getting your first choices as programs fill up quickly.

The complete registration details are available in the guide, downloadable online

“Camps are a great way for our children to discover new interests, learn something new, use creative outlets to express themselves," Taylor said. "And more importantly, have fun in a safe environment."
